Special Needs Counsellor Jobs at Camp

Make a meaningful impact this summer by supporting campers with special needs in a safe and enriching environment.

Your Role

As a Special Needs Counsellor, you'll provide hands-on support for campers with varying disabilities, ensuring they have a fun and fulfilling summer. Your role may include leading activities, offering emotional support, and assisting with personal care tasks to help campers maintain their independence and well-being.

Your Impact

Your presence at camp will create an inclusive and empowering experience for campers with special needs. You'll help build their confidence, foster friendships, and provide essential care, making a lasting impact on their summer—and their lives.

Why should you work as a Special Needs Counsellor?

Working as a Special Needs Counselor is a rewarding opportunity to develop patience, empathy, and leadership skills while making a difference. You'll support campers by guiding them through their daily routines, engaging them in camp activities, and, when necessary, assisting with personal care. Every day brings new challenges and rewarding moments, as you help create a safe and memorable experience for the campers. Some campers may require more assistance than others, so it’s important to ask questions and understand the level of care involved. If you're compassionate, adaptable, and eager to make an impact, this is the role for you.

Working at a special needs camp in Canada was, hands down, one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! As a 19-year-old, I never imagined the impact I could have on others—until that summer. As Head of Horseback Riding, I had the privilege of introducing some campers to horses for the very first time, while helping others continue a passion they already loved. Seeing their confidence grow and witnessing their joy was truly life-changing. Beyond the impact I had on the campers, this experience shaped me in ways I never expected. The skills, lessons, and challenges I faced that summer have stayed with me every single day. Camp pushes you outside your comfort zone and offers opportunities you simply wouldn’t get anywhere else. I’ve always said that the best version of myself is when I’m at camp—and that’s the version I strive to be, wherever I go!
