Eligibility for Camp Canada

Updated eligibility for summer 2027:

Please note: For applicants from Australia and New Zealand, the program is highly competitive. At this time, we are only considering candidates who are between 19 and 30 years old, have relevant waterfront skills, previous childcare experience, and are current students or planning to begin studies within a year of finishing your camp placement.

You’re eligible if you’re:



19-30 years old by June 15th



A student or intend to be within one year



Free to fly to Canada by June 15th, and work until at least August 17th



You have a clean criminal background



A citizen of a visa-exempt country

Qualifications not required.

While you don’t need formal qualifications to apply, Camp Canada is a competitive program, and experience in one of our high-demand skills—like waterfront, ropes, or climbing—may be required. ‍

Above all, camps are looking for international staff who are passionate, open, and ready to share their culture with campers all summer long.

Things to remember:



You'll work with children between the age of 6-16.

Parents trust camps to take care of their children.

Camp is a lot of fun, but you also work hard.

You will have days off during camp to explore the area and relax (along with 6 months to travel after camp).



You'll be away from home for at least 8 weeks.

FAQs

Can I still apply for Camp Canada if I am 18 years old?

Yes! You can apply at 18 as long as you’ll be 19 by the time you head to camp. Please check the eligibility dates above to make sure you’ll meet the age requirement in time.

I'm not a student, can I still apply for the program?

At the moment, Camp Canada is only open to current students or those who plan to begin studying within the next year. If you're not a student or don’t have plans to study soon, you wouldn’t be eligible for the program right now.

How long do I work in Canada?

As a counsellor, you'll head to camp sometime between May 1st and June 15th. You'll spend 8-10 weeks at camp, with the option to switch to a visitor visa after camp for $100 to travel in Canada for up to 6 months.

When do I need to be available?

You need to be available during the summer months. Most camps start between May 1st and June 15th, and finish 8-10 weeks after the start date.

Do I need to have previous experience working with children?

In most cases, yes. You will need to have some previous experience working with children. There are some exceptional situations where we can accept those without childcare experience - we highly recommend speaking with our team to learn more about your options.
