The Camp Canada Story

1. The Inspiration

Jonathan Nyquist’s experiences at camps in Canada, the US, and Australia inspired him to create a program that would help young adults discover the transformative power of camp, cultural exchange, and nature-based communities.

2. Humble Beginnings

In 2006, Camp Canada began operations from a small office in Toronto, placing 11 university students at camps in its first year and receiving enthusiastic feedback from staff and camp directors.

3. Early Success

The positive response from camps highlighted the need for international staff, showcasing the benefits of cultural exchange and the dedication of the recruits.

4. Building a Team

Encouraged by success, Camp Canada assembled a team to grow its services, forming partnerships to support recruitment, training, and placement of qualified international staff.

5. Expanding Reach

Over time, Camp Canada introduced its services to new camps, addressing staffing shortages while enriching camp communities with diverse, talented staff.

6. Innovating Recruitment

The organisation developed innovative solutions, including overseas job fairs and an online portal that streamlined applications for international staff and participating camps.

7. Strategic Alliance

In 2017, Camp Canada partnered with Smaller Earth, a Liverpool-based cultural exchange organisation. The collaboration combined strengths and values to enhance their shared mission.

8. Showing Resilience

Now a leader in international camp staffing, Camp Canada continues to create meaningful, life-changing experiences for both staff and camps, driven by its passion for cultural exchange and community building.

9. Emerging Stronger

Despite setbacks, the company emerged from the pandemic with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger, more determined team.

10. Expanding Services

Post-pandemic, Camp Canada focused on rebuilding and expanding its offerings, staying innovative while continuing to address the needs of camps and international staff.

11. True to Values

Throughout its growth, Camp Canada has maintained its collaborative, customer-focused approach, ensuring meaningful support for both camps and staff.

12. Thriving Leader

Today, Camp Canada is a leader in international camp staffing, creating life-changing experiences for young adults and fostering cultural exchange across Canada.
